About this page

The Commonplace is a personal essay archive — a running record of what feels worth thinking about, organized across History, Philosophy, Economy, Programming, Culture, Local Politics, Global Politics, and Weather.

It's built and maintained by Glenn Pansensoy, who also runs Poetic Bytes, a free Python learning platform, and Poetic Codes, a long-form essay publication.

Unlike a typical blog, everything written here stays on the device it was written on — there's no server, no account, and no editorial gatekeeping. It's closer to a commonplace book than a publication: a private notebook that happens to run in a browser.

Why it's free

The Commonplace is supported by a small amount of advertising rather than a subscription, so it stays free and open to anyone who wants to keep a running record of their own.
